Halloween!  Make a super cool Lizzie Witch Lamp!!

Alfie shares the secret of his fir-cone weather station  and Georgie shows you how to make this super cool Lizzie Witch Lamp.

The Lizzie Witch Lamp

This is SO much fun to make. Quick, cheap and easy.

Don’t blow up the balloon too much if you are making it for the table but a large balloon is great for outside.

The instructions are on video. Click on the link below:

Halloween Fun and Crafts

There’s no time like the present to start preparing for Halloween!

The shops are already bulging at the seams with, often overpriced, costumes and decorations. So why not make your own! It’s much cheaper and much more fun!

I don’t like the commercialism but I do love the build up to Halloween because i love making witches and ghouls and lamps and spiders and ….. there are so many great projects linked to this theme!

We have always held Halloween Parties but not the ‘Trick or Treating’ kind. Just good harmless fun!

Games like ‘Bob Apple’ , spooky music and spooky stories and themed food. We always include a fun craft activity which is usually to make an item for the ‘party bag’ like a tiny Ghost or Witch or Spider made from CHUPPA CHUPS lollies! These take only about ten minutes to make and Kids L O V É them!

Whether you love Halloween or hate it this Festival presents a great opportunity for introducing lots of fun crafts to your children. Have a look at the Halloween Playlist on my channel. Some of the videos are presented by my ‘Jumbles’ puppets

to encourage young children to ‘have a go’ and be creative! They will get so much more satisfaction and enjoyment out of making the decorations and props than from buying them AND save you lots of money.

Bewitched Halloween Party Bags

Make  these fun (and tasty) witches and ghouls in the blink of an eye !

Ideal as decorations and perfect for Halloween party bags.

All you need are a few CHUPA CHUPS lollies, some circles of fabric,  small elastic bands or hair elastics.

Instructions:

Place the lolly in the centre of the fabric.

Secure with an elaśtic.

Stick on a couple of eyes and the ghoul is finished.

For the Witch make a little hat from black card or felt.

If you want your witch to have a broomstick you can make this from a simple stick of liquorice or a cola stick wrapped in black wool or pipe cleaners.

We pushed two liquorice  spirals onto the lolly sticks for balance so they stayed the right way up when hung from the beam. This is also a nice touch for those  children  who want to keep their lolly ghoul intact as they can  still enjoy a sweet treat!

Make a Spider’s Web

Here’s the web for yesterday’s spider .

It’s not difficult. Just fiddly!  AND sticky!

I recommend that this web should be made by an older child or adult.

I will be back later in the week with simpler webs for young children to make

And here are the instructions

Magic with Lizzy Witch

Lizzy uses her magic to make a bouncy egg but is it really magic ?

The Lizzie Witch magic posts are a fun way to introduce simple science investigations and basic concepts to young children.

Lizzie encourages them to be inquisitive and to find things out for themselves BUT all activities should be supervised by an adult.

Lizzie Jumble. The Forgetful Witch

Lizzy the Witch is terribly forgetful.

She forgets people’s birthdays

She forgets the time

She forgets where she is going.

She even forgets her broomstick.

But worst of all she forgets her magic spells!

As you can imagine, this makes life very difficult for Lizzie AND for everyone else.

Yesterday was a particularly bad day.

Lizzie woke up but forgot where she was and fell out of

bed.

Then she went into the kitchen to make breakfast.

She had bought some eggs the day before but couldn’t

remember where she had put them.

“Never mind,” thought Lizzie I can make an egg.

So Lizzie put an egg cup on a plate and the plate on the

table.

Then she waved her majic wand and said,

“abracadabra, abracadabra, chicks and ducks and eggs

and ………”.

But she got forgot the rest of the spell.

Did she get her boiled egg?

No. Of course she didn’t.

There in the egg-cup sat a chick. A fluffy, yellow

chick.

A confused, fluffy, yellow chick!

Oh dear thought Lizzie. This won’t do. I think I will go and

have breakfast with Maisie.

So Lizzie put the chick outside and climbed onto her

broomstick.

Now which way do I go, she thought. Is it right? Or is it

left? Or maybe it’s straight on.

After flying backwards and forwards and round and round

she finally reached Maisie’s house.

Maisie was playing on her trampoline in the garden.

“Hi Maisie,” shouted Lizzie waving her arms madly.

Waving both of her arms. Up in the air.

Of course Lizzie fell off her broomstick which is what

does happen if you forget to hold on to your broomstick.

Down through the air tumbled Lizzie. Head over heels.

Fortunately she landed on the trampoline.

Bounce, bounce, bounce went Lizzy.

Creak, creak, creak went the springs.

Oh dear thought Lizzy sitting down. I feel quite dizzy.

After all that bouncing Lizzy had

forgotten where she was.

She thought she was still at home.

Hello Maisie,” she said “How nice of you to come to see

me”

Maisie just smiled . She was used to Lizzie and her

forgetfulness.

After breakfast Lizzie went to visit Freddie.

Freddie was in the kitchen trying to put a rather large pot

on top of his cupboard.

I can do that said Lizzie and waved her majic wand.

“Abracadabra, abracadabra, pots and pans and …….”

She forgot the rest.

Do you think the pot went on top of the cupboard?

No. It stayed exactly where it was.

With Freddie in it.

Upside down. Legs in the air!

After helping to squeeze Freddie out of the pot, Lizzie

decided to visit Georgie.

Georgie was feeling sad because she hadn’t got a fancy

dress outfit for the Halloween party.

“I can fix that,” said Lizzie and waved her majic wand at

Georgie.

“Abracadabra, abracadabra, hats and cloaks and frogs

and ……”

She forgot the rest.

Do you think Georgie was pleased with her fancy dress

outfit?

Well not exactly.

Fortunately the spell didn’t last long and Lizzie and

Georgie were able to have a good giggle about it while

they enjoyed tea and cake.

By this time Lizzie was feeling very tired and decided to

go home.

Of course she had forgotten her broomstick.

She had also forgotten where she lived.

Lizzie walked down the path of what she thought was her

house and opened the door.

She was very surprised to see all her friends in her living

room.

But of course it wasn’t her living room or her house.

S U R P R I S E ! ! they shouted.

“We thought you had forgotten to come to our party,

Lizzy,” said Spotty.

Which course, she had!

She had also forgotten it was Halloween.

But then Lizzie Witch forgets everything!

Halloween

Look at the sky. What can you see?

Is it a witch?

Yes?

Why do you think it's a witch?

Think of three reasons.

It's coming closer!

Yes! It looks like a witch. But could it be something else ?

It's Lizzy Jumble! I wonder why she is dressed up as a witch?

Can you guess?

Here's a clue. It is the 31st October on Saturday.

It's a special day. Do you know what it is?

Yes! Halloween.

Why not make a Jumble for Halloween,

You can make a witch like Lizzy from black tights.

What else could you make ?

Maybe this?

Look at the Jumble Box.

I can see a white pillow slip and a ball.

Can you make anything spooky from them?

Have fun with your Jumbles and email me some photos.

I'll try to post them on our Pinterest board.

Why did you think it was a witch in the picture?

Did you think of 3 reasons ?

Yes?

You thought of more?

That's even better!
